A 1986 2+2 with a real Pontiac fuel injected engine over a 305 non HO. Imagine a 4th Gen Pontiac with a high torque Pontiac engine to set it apparat from a Camaro. I am far from alone as at the Pontiac events most there will agree. That is why I said they died long before this G6. I am a life long Pontiac fan and have owned or driven many of their greatest cars. Also the few performance versions of these models today are over priced and sell few in numbers. Todays SUV market would never have fit a Pontiac either. Turbo G5, this is a great example of how Pontiac died. While they did more exciting versions than Chevy they just never had their independents again.Ĭhevy got a Cobalt SS and Pontiac was refused. After that Pontiac just became another corporate brand. These engineers still broke rules up till the Fiero and most retired. They did things well in advance of other brands but John was sent to Chevy to die. Too often Chevy prevented Pontiac from getting what they needed.ĭelorean in the 60’s put together a group of rebellious engineers that broke rules. Chevy had more say as they sold more cars than Pontiac. GM never understood they needed the divisions to work together not against each other. We did get a few models via Lutz but it was too late by the time he arrived. The last 10 years of Pontiac was years of decline. In history very few last cars are saved of any brand or model outside a C model corvette going to a new platform. Closing lines today most cars are just fleet cars to use up remaining parts. To be honest there is little interest in this case as there was in the last Olds. They had the 2.0 Turbo that could have been used but never did. The V6 was just the standard V6 in any GM car. It was from the performance division but they really had no real performance mode. The cars at the end were just restyled Chevy models and not even the best versions of those.
